I would certainly not mind that.

And yes, I've noticed that a disproportionate number of people do not seem fond of him, nor he them. I do not understand it, myself; he is not that difficult to get along with.

That is a good way of putting it. However, compared to some of those I have worked with, he's still quite amicable.

No. But part, I think, of understanding him is realizing the key role you play in his life -- for all that it may not be the easiest role for you to fill, you are important to him.

Time, for the most part, and experience. It helps that the workings of the heart are nothing new to me.
