That is a good way of putting it. However, compared to some of those I have worked with, he's still quite amicable.

No. But part, I think, of understanding him is realizing the key role you play in his life -- for all that it may not be the easiest role for you to fill, you are important to him.

I'm glad I'm important to him, he's my friend. I'm just not used to all the praise and such, is all.

Time, for the most part, and experience. It helps that the workings of the heart are nothing new to me.
